About the Traveling Praters
The Traveling Praters was never intended to be seen by outside eyes. Living in a 31-foot motor home with my husband, three homeschooled teenage children and rescued pound puppy, this blog began as an outlet to keep me sane and to allow friends and family “back home in Ohio” a glimpse of our new life, as we traveled with my husband’s job.
That was over eight years ago. I survived 18-months as a full-time RVer and my blog has shifted from a personal journal to a valuable resource for those seeking information on:
- Couples “on-the-verge-of-empty-nest” Travel
- Cooking in a Hotel Room
- Tips on How to Afford Family Travel
- Travel in Ohio and throughout the U.S.
Hi, my name is Tonya. And I’m the voice behind The Traveling Praters. I’m wife of 24 years to my high school sweetheart and mom to a 20, 21 and 23 year old young adults. I’m also a closet introvert, who dreams of returning to the nomadic life. I love history, architecture and got so caught up with the cast of Downton Abbey that I cried when my favorite character died and haven’t been able to watch since. I’m bracing myself and excited for the empty-nest years that are just around the corner- though they once scared me to death.
Once a Buckeye, Always a Buckeye
I was born and raised in Ohio. I’ve been a Buckeye my entire life, minus the brief time we spent in Huntsville, Alabama. My family traveled for seven years with my husband’s job and during that time I developed an appreciation for all things Ohio. You’ll find I devote a lot of time sharing my Ohio Travel Adventures. I’m on a quest to lure as many people to my home state as possible, but that doesn’t mean that I ignore other great destinations across the country. I love to road trip and have traveled across the country several times on 5,000+ mile road trips.
In addition to my site, I am also co-owner of Wanderlust Moms, a site written by and for moms. I also write for TravelingMom.com as Ohio TravelingMom and the PromoPro deal site. My guest posts have shown up on Blissfully Domestic, About.com, Walking On Travels and Kids on a Plane, to name a few. I’ve also been interviewed and quoted at Globe and Mail, Live.Do.Grow., HotelsCheap.com and featured on Mamabuzz, TMS Mama and Papas, Suitcases and Sippycups, and Wandering Educators.
I spent several years as the writer and editor for my local homeschool group, Training Leaders for Christ and have spoken at local homeschool groups and at CHEO, the state homeschool convention for Christian Home Educators of Ohio on Educational Travel and the Benefit of Field Trips.
Connect with The Traveling Praters
2017 promises to be a busy year. Two of my kids are leaving home to serve in the mission field in Mexico, while the other serves our country in the military, leaving my husband and I to adjust to life as empty nesters. We have big travel plans, which include a New England road trip so we can say we’ve visited 49 of the 50 states (Hawaii will have to wait), a trip to Mexico to visit our kids, and we’re gearing up for a 300-mile bike ride from Pittsburgh to Washington DC. I hope it doesn’t kill me.
